  1.  A yellow wood - 'Yellow wood' means the autumn season. Autumn corresponds with old age. The poet could be symbolically talking about the later stages of life.
  2.  It was grassy and wanted wear - This conveys that the path was full of grass and nobody had used it before. So, it was not worn out or it was by fewer people.
  3.  The passing there - The use of the path by people passing through the forest.
  4.  Leaves no step had trodden black - The leaves had not become black because few people had stepped on them. This could symbolize a path one may have never/seldom taken in life because of fear of uncertainty.
  5.  How many leads on to way - This means how certain decisions one makes in life could pave the way for many other decisions.
