A yellow wood
- 'Yellow wood' means the autumn season. Autumn corresponds with old age. The poet could be symbolically talking about the later stages of life.
It was grassy and wanted wear
- This conveys that the path was full of grass and nobody had used it before. So, it was not worn out or it was by fewer people.
The passing there
- The use of the path by people passing through the forest.
Leaves no step had trodden black
- The leaves had not become black because few people had stepped on them. This could symbolize a path one may have never/seldom taken in life because of fear of uncertainty.
How many leads on to way
- This means how certain decisions one makes in life could pave the way for many other decisions.
