Chef Boyardee was a real person. Ettore Boiardi was an Italian Italian immigrant who came to the United States at the age of 16 and took the name "Hector Boiardi" while passing through Ellis Island.
He worked in a variety of top restaurants in New York as a chef, eventually working until he reached Chef. At the age of 24, he moved to Cleveland and opened a restaurant with his wife.
He came up with the now famous brand name "Chef Boyardee", which changes the spelling of his name into a phone call to help Americans pronounce his name correctly.
