4. Either 2 or 3

Current recommendation for placement of a drivers hands on the steering wheel are at the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock position or at the 8 o’clock and 4 o’clock position.

More info:

Both, AAA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) advise to change the old-fashioned driving technique. It is not only no longer optimal, but also may be a safety risk for drivers.

But the widespread availability of power steering has changed the new recommended positions are at either 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock or slightly higher at 9:00 and 3:00.

Although the 9:00 and 3:00 position offers the advantage of symmetrical leverage. Many people find that the 8 & 4 position is the least fatiguing of all the old.
