A sphygmomanometer is a device used to measure blood pressure.
It is made up of a respiratory cuff to compress and release the arterial cuff in a controlled manner. Manometer is used to measure pressure.
It is also known as a Blood pressure monitor, or Blood gauge.
There are 3 major types of sphygmomanometers. They are:
- Mercury sphygmomanometer (most conventional & considered as golden standard)
- Aneroid sphygmomanometer, and
- Digital sphygmomanometer
