Roald Amundsen was the first person to reach the South pole.

Roald Amundsen was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions. His full name was Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen. He was a significant figure of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.

Beating his British rival Robert Falcon Scott, he becomes the first explorer to reach the South Pole.
